DOHA, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- South Korea and DPR Korea
marched together at the opening ceremony of the Doha Asian Games at the Khalifa
Stadium here Friday evening.
The two teams stepped onto the stage under a
blue-and-white unification flag, which was held together by a South Korean men's
basketball player and a woman athlete from the DPR Korea.
With smile on their faces, the two flag bearers led
the delegation into the stadium to embrace the sea of warm applause from the
stands packed with nearly 40,000 spectators.
The dark blue suits for the South Koreans and the
light blue for the DPR Koreans seemed to be matched well.
They have marched together seven times since the
Sydney Olympics in 2000, but have never made up a unified team for an Olympics.
Hours before the opening ceremony, a South Korean
Olympic Committee official said that their discussions of a united team for the
Beijing Olympics were inconclusive, and will continue later, although the time
has not been set.
