RIYADH, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Saudi security forces have detained 139 suspected al-Qaida militants during an almost three-month nationwide campaign against Islamic extremists, Saudi Press Agency(SPA) reported on Saturday.

Citing a statement issued by Saudi Interior Ministry, the report said that most of the 139 detained suspects are foreigners, including a would-be suicide bomber.

It added that those detainees infiltrated into Saudi Arabia after receiving terrorist training outside the country. Along with the suspects, a large number of weapons and cash were also seized, according to the statement.

The detained militants have been plotting suicide bombings, abductions and assassinations targeting the westerners in capital city of Riyadh, added the statement.

In hatred of Saudi royal family's good relations with the U.S. administration, al-Qaida militants started a campaign to bring down the Saudi kingdom in May 2003.
