BEIJING, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Proctor & Gamble's SK-II beauty products, which were pulled off Chinese shelves amid a major health scare in September, will be back on sale in Beijing on Friday at Zhongyou (Chungyo) Store near Xidan.

"The cooperation between Zhongyou and Procter & Gamble Co. will remain unchanged and the counter for exclusive sales at our store will be operate as it used to," said an executive of Zhongyou Store.

The sale of SK-II cosmetics was suspended in China in September after Chinese quality and quarantine control authorities discovered chromium and neodymium in 12 SK-II products imported from Japan.

Thousands of angry consumers demanded refunds following media reports that said Chromium could cause eczema and neodymium could cause skin irritations and damage to the lungs and liver if inhaled.

But the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, allayed safety fears in a joint statement with the Ministry of Health published in late October, saying that traces of the banned substances would not affect the health of customers. They then approved the resumption of the sale of SK-II cosmetics in Chinese cities.

The SK-II products were back on sale on Sunday at the Guangbai General Merchandise Headquarter Store in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province.

Dannisi Store in Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan Province, said they would also resume sale of SK-II cosmetics on Friday.

However, stores in Shanghai are delaying the resumption of sales, believing it will take time for the cosmetics to regain consumers' confidence.
