Taiwan's mayoral election results unveiled

    BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Election results for new mayors in Taiwan's two biggest cities were unveiled Saturday evening, with Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Kuomintang Party (KMT) each won mayoral election victories.

    Hau Long-bin, candidate from KMT had beat his main rival Frank Hsieh of the DPP with 54 percent votes in the election to become the new mayor for Taipei and Chen Chu from DPP narrowly won the race with KMT's Huang Chun-ying for the mayoral post in the southern city of Kaohsiung, with 49 percent votes.

    The KMT won 24 seats out of 52 seats in council election in Taipei, with the DPP gaining 18, People First Party two, New Partyfour, Taiwan Solidarity Union two and non-partisans two.

    The KMT was victorious in council election in Kaohsiung, winning 17 seats out of 44, with the DPP gaining 15, People First Party four, Taiwan Solidarity Union one and non-partisans seven.
