BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Supporters of Kuomintang Party (KMT) candidate Huang Jun-ying have demanded a vote recount for the mayoral election in southern Kaohsiung city Saturday after the result was unveiled.
The candidate from Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Chen Chu narrowly won the election in Kaohsiung by 1,114 votes against Huang.
Supporters of Huang have questioned the result and demanded a complete recount, Taiwan media reported.
There are 890 ballot boxes in the mayoral election in Kaohsiung and the margin was only 1,114 between Chen and Huang, which means the margin in every box is very narrow, Huang's supporters said, according to Taiwan media reports.
Supporters gathered at Huang's campaigning office urging immediate action in protecting all evidence, including collectively keeping and sealing the ballot boxes and a complete recount.
Huang and the KMT have not made any comments on the call for a recount.
