LONDON, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Goalkeeper Antti Niemi of English Premier League club Fulham was discharged from hospital on Monday after a neck injury suffered in their 0-0 draw at home to Watford.

The Finland international attempted a clearance but landed on his head, nine minutes into the second half. He was taken to hospital.

Fulham later issued a statement saying: "He was reviewed by the doctors there and was cleared of any spinal cord or spinal column injury. Therefore, the injury sustained is believed to be related to the soft tissue (the ligaments and muscles)."

Fulham manager Chris Coleman earlier told Sky Sports: "It's a good job he's as agile and as flexible as he is, it could have been a lot worse."

Niemi, 34, joined the London club a year ago from Southampton.
