RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian
Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed on Thursday that the national team will
play Portugal in their first game in 2007.
The match will be held on Feb. 6. The place has not been defined yet, but CBF stated that London was
likely to host the event.
The last time that the two teams faced each other was
in March 2003 at the Estadio das Antas arena, in the city of Porto, Portugal.
The hosts won by 2-1, with goals by striker Pauleta and midfielder Deco.
Ronaldinho converted a penalty for Brazil.
At the time, head coach Luiz Felipe Scolari was in
the command of the Portuguese team.
Previously, he had led Brazil to their fifth World
Cup title in the 2002 South Korea/Japan championship. In the World Cup in
Germany, Scolari and the Portuguese got to the semifinals for the first time in
40 years, and finished fourth.
It will also be the first time that Brazil has played
Portugal under head coach Dunga's command.
Since he took over the position, shortly after the
Cup in 2006, the squad has played six friendly games, of which they won five
against Argentina, Wales, Kuwait, Ecuador and Switzerland. They tied Norway in
Dunga's inauguration match in August.
In 2007, Brazil is expected to play other friendlies,
the Cup America (June-July, in Venezuela) and the beginning of the playoffs for
the 2010 World Cup.
