KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- The ASEAN Football Championship will go ahead as planned in the Thai capital of Bangkok this month, local news report said Friday.
Despite recent bombings in Thailand, this championship will kick off on Jan. 12 amid stepped-up security measures, the Asian Football Confederation said in a report on its official website here.
"There will be tight security not only at the stadium but at the hotel and media center ... However I don't expect any problem," President of the Football Association of Thailand, Vijitr Getkaew, was quoted as saying.
Thailand will launch their campaign in Group A on Jan. 12 against Myanmar followed by matches against the Philippines and Malaysia.
The Group B is being hosted by defending champions Singapore and includes Vietnam, Laos and Indonesia.
