PYONGYANG, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- A Foreign Ministry
spokesman of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) said Friday that
the talks between the DPRK and the United States were conducted "in a positive
and sincere atmosphere."
"A certain agreement was reached there," the
spokesman was quoted by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) as
saying.
"We paid attention to the direct dialogue held by the
DPRK and the U.S. in a bid to settle knotty problems in resolving the nuclear
issue," he added.
Negotiators from the United States and the DPRK met
in Berlin on Jan. 16-18 to discuss issues concerning the resumption of the
six-party talks.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- The United States insisted
on Thursday that the meetings between officials from the United States and the
Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in Berlin do not signal a change of
long-standing U.S. policy that does not negotiate directly with the DPRK.
"This is not an instance of bilateral negotiations," White
House spokesman Tony Snow said.
