BEIJING, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) - A documentary series exploring Japan's current culture, society and industry will air on China Central Television (CCTV) March this year, according to the network's website.

The 20-episode series features nine topics including the Japanese cartoon industry, sumo wrestling, Japanese disaster prevention and relief, Japanese youth, its aging society, environmental protection, and family life.

"Instead discussing Japan's whitewashing of history and the massacre in China in 1930's, the documentary series mainly focuses on the current Japan," said the website.

The series is designed to deepen mutual understanding, said Liang Xiaotao, director of the CCTV news center which made the series.

"I hope Chinese people will understand more about Japan after watching the series," said Ide Keiji, a counselor with the Japanese embassy in Beijing.
