OIC chief urges Palestinian leaders to restore stability

    CAIRO, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC),on Sunday urged Palestinian political leaders to control armed factions and restore stability and calm in the Palestinian territories.

    Addressing a press conference here, Ihsanoglu said that both Fatah and Hamas movements are equally responsible for the ongoing dispute, which left at least 27 Palestinians killed during a four-day clashes since late Thursday.

    The OIC is exerting efforts aimed at ending the inter-Palestinian fighting and bringing calm to the streets in the Palestinian lands, Ihsanoglu said.

    The OIC chief, meanwhile, expressed appreciation of Egypt's efforts to halt the Fatah-Hamas infighting.

    On Saturday, Ihsanoglu also met with Amr Moussa, Secretary General of the Cairo-based Arab League, on issues of Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon, Darfur and Somalia, as well as Islamic world's support for the Palestinians.

    At a joint press conference with Ihsanoglu, Moussa said they have agreed on bolstering bilateral cooperation to settle the Middle East problems.
