A car bomb went off in the afternoon near the Aswaq Mariana store in central Baghdad, killing six people and wounding nine others, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Earlier, 10 people were killed and 62 others injured in another car bomb blast near the Saidiyah fuel station in southwestern Baghdad at about 12:40 (0940 GMT), the source said.

The attack occurred whe n dozens of cars were lining up outside the fuel station, the source said.

Ali Awad who was in the queue told Xinhua that "it seems the attack was targeting a passing police commando patrol, but it was a very busy area, how could they commit such massacre?"

In a separate incident in central Baghdad, 10 people were killed and 20 others wounded when a car bomb detonated around midday in the Najafi parking lot in the Nahdha area, the source said.

Violence rages in Iraq despite the government's measures to crack down on illegal militia and the U.S. decision to send more than 21,000 soldiers to the war-torn country.
