PARIS, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- A total of 58 nations on Tuesday promised to take measures to stop the recruitment of child soldiers in a document called "Paris Commitments" published following a two-day conference, "Let us liberate the children of war."

The countries signing the "Commitments" pledged to take efforts to "end the illegal utilization and recruitment of children by the armed groups or forces all over the world" and to spread out all their strength to respect and apply the texts.

The "Commitments" also stressed the unconditional and immediate liberation of the underage recruited or utilized by armed groups or forces and the disposal of all financial measures as soon as possible in order to protect the children.

The conference is sponsored by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and French Foreign Ministry, with representatives from around 60 countries and international organizations.

The number of children recruited or being used by armed groups and forces is estimated at 250,000 to date and 12 countries have been blacklisted by the UN over the matter.
