JAKARTA, May 3 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with magnitude of 5.5 rocked North Maluku province on Thursday, with no report of casualty or damages, the country's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said here.
The quake struck at 18:27 Jakarta time (1127 GMT) with epicenter at 128 kilometers northwest Ternate, the capital of the province, and 52 kilometers under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua.
Indonesia is located in a vulnerable quake-hit zone called "the Pacific Ring of Fire," where continental plates meet causing frequent seismic and volcanic activities.
