WASHINGTON, May 3 (Xinhua) -- The Golden State Warriors stunned Dallas Mavericks 111-86 at home in Game 6 on Thursday, eliminating the losing NBA finalists 4-2 in their Western Conference first round playoffs.
The Warriors, who made a playoff berth from the last match of the regular season, dominated the best-of-seven series against the top-seeded Mavericks who won a league-leading 67 regular season games and had their sights sets on returning to the NBA finals for the second straight year.
Days ago, defending champions Miami Heat, who beat Mavericks for the championship last season, fell to the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference first round.
From 50-48 at half break, the Warriors broke open the game in the third period, when they out-scored the Mavericks 36-15.
Dallas star Dirk Nowitzki, the leading contender for Most Valuable Player honors, had a nightmare game, scoring just eight points on 2-of-13 shooting.
In the second round, the Warriors will face the winner of the Western Conference first-round series between Houston Rockets and Utah Jazz.
The Jazz won over the Rockets 94-82 to tie their series 3-3 on earlier Thursday, with Game 7 in Houston on Saturday.
