HARARE, May 4 (Xinhua) -- The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee will soon engage Tennis Zimbabwe over the availability of men's doubles specialist Kevin Ullyett for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Robert Mutsauki, the ZOC chief executive, said earlier this week that although Ullyett has not yet committed himself to representing Zimbabwe at the Beijing Games, they would like the former Davis Cup player to be part of the Zimbabwe team in China.
Ullyett made his debut appearance for Zimbabwe at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, and was also part of the team, which took part at the last Olympics in Athens, Greece, in 2004.
But since representing Zimbabwe at the Athens Games, Ullyett, who turns 35 on May 23, has stopped playing for the country in international tournaments, including the Davis Cup.
In fact, Ullyett stopped playing for Zimbabwe in the Davis Cup competition after the country's Euro-African Zone Group One quarter-final tie against Belgium in April 2004.
The bald-headed player has been boycotting playing for Zimbabwein the Davis Cup competition, citing non-payment of bonuses by TZ as the main reason for his "industrial action".
And it is against this background that ZOC would like to seek assurance from Ullyett, through TZ, that he would be available to represent Zimbabwe at the Beijing Games.
Mutsauki said if Ullyett gives them "a positive answer", they would like him to play in both singles and doubles in China.
The country's other top player Cara Black has already committed herself to representing Zimbabwe at the Beijing Games where she is likely to play in both singles and doubles.
Mutsauki said Black was likely to get a wildcard from the ITF to play in both singles and doubles at the Beijing Games.
