DHAKA, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Six Bangladeshi young river cruisers were drowned, 10 missing in River Buriganga near capital Dhaka Friday night.
ATN Bangla television said on Saturday morning around 35 young men and women hired a ferry for a river cruise on Friday. But before the ferry reached Sadarghat terminal in Dhaka, a fight broke out because most of the cruisers were drunk. The cruisers split into two groups.
Soon after the first clash, six to seven of one group left the ferry by a boat. Before leaving they threatened the others that they would have dire consequences.
As soon as the ferry reached the terminal, about 25 people swooped on the cruisers on the deck. They beat the cruisers discriminatively. Some cruisers jumped to the river to escape the beating, when they tried to get on three boats floating nearby, the boats overturned.
The fire service frogmen said they worked throughout the night and so far picked up six bodies and was still searching for missing persons.
