BANGKOK, May 5 (Xinhua) -- One passer-by was slightly injured when a bomb exploded Saturday night in downtown Bangkok.
According to FM 100 radio channel, the bomb, planted at a telephone booth, went off at about 9:30 p.m. (1430 GMT) on Bangkok's Ratchavitee Road, slightly injuring one passer-by and damaging the glass of telephone booth.
The Bangkok Post website quoted the injured man, 22-year-old Prapat Meuangsongchan as saying that he got off his motorcycle to make a call in the booth, only to see flames flashed off from behind the electric pole next to the booth, and then he heard a loud bang.
Initial police examination indicated that the bomb had been placed in a foam box inserted in a garbage bag.
The surrounding area was cordoned off and the national police chief Seriphisut Temiyavej has arrived to inspect the site.
Earlier on Saturday, Chairman of the Council for National Security (CNS) Sonthi Boonyaratkalin told people not to worry about a statement by CNS deputy secretary-general and assistant army chief Saprang Kalayanamitr on any terrorist plot against Bangkok.
Saprang was quoted by local media as saying that British police have found a Bangkok terrorist manual in a London apartment. But he later said the intelligence was dated back to Cold War and blamed the media for taking his comment out of context.
