GAZA, May 6 (Xinhua) -- An armed wing of the Islamic Jihad (Holy War)
claimed responsibility for launching three homemade rockets into southern Israel
communities on Sunday.
Al-Quds Brigades said in a statement that its militants fire done rocket
into Sderot city from northern Gaza Strip and another group aimed two rockets at
Israeli communities from southeast Gaza Strip.
The Islamic Jihad said their attacks meant to respond to the Israeli army
operation in the West Bank where three Islamic Jihad militants were killed two
days ago.
Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported that four rockets landed in open
areas in southern Israel on Sunday morning, causing no injuries.
Two rockets landed near southern Israeli town of Sderot and two others fell
close to the border near the southern part of the Gaza Strip, the report said.
Meanwhile, an Israeli army force stormed Jenin town in the West Bank and
arrested a member of the Islamic Jihad after he was wounded during clashes with
the soldiers.
Militant groups in Gaza agreed to observe a truce with Israel that was
reached last November but Israel's frequent raids against the West Bank and the
consequent Palestinian rocket attacks from Gaza have made the ceasefire fragile.
