WARSAW, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Polish Prime Minister
Jaroslaw Kaczynski said Tuesday that the election of Nicolas Sarkozy as
president of France will help improve Euro-Atlantic relations.
"We are always glad when the right-wing is winning in
Europe, but we have to wait to see what consequences such results will bring for
Poland," Kaczynski told Polish Radio One Tuesday.
"We hope that certain elements of the French foreign
policy will at least be put under discussion," he said.
Kaczynski expressed hope that Europe will "not be
built around anti-Americanism."
"It's an unwise idea, but such ideas do exist in
Europe. One of the centers of such thinking was Paris," Kaczynski said, adding
that if this changed it would be better for both Europe and Poland.
Sarkozy, of the right-wing Union for a Popular
Movement, won the French presidential run-off Sunday, scoring a victory over
Segolene Royal of the left-wing Socialist Party. Sarkozy won over 53 percent of
the vote against Royal's 47 percent.
