PARIS, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 people were killed when their passenger plane crashed into a lagoon after take-off in French Polynesia on Thursday, according to reports reaching here.

The crash happened at about 12:15 p.m. (2215 GMT) at Moorea Island when the Air Moorea Dornier plane, carrying 19 passengers and one pilot, overshot its runway and plunged into a lagoon, French police said.

A total of 14 bodies, including that of the pilot, have been recovered, but rescue teams said the chances that they would find any survivors were slim.
