    SANYA, Hainan, May 3 (Xinhua) -- The chartered plane carrying the Beijing Olympic Flame landed at Sanya Fenghuang International Airport from Macao at 10:35 p.m. on Saturday.

    Luo Baoming, governor of Hainan Province, received the sacred flame from the Executive Vice President of the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee Yang Shu'an.

    The arrival of the Olympic Flame will ignite the enthusiasm of all the citizens and Sanya will develop the Olympic spirit and promote the internationalization process of the city, said Lu Zhiyuan, mayor of Sanya city.

    The Olympic torch relay will kick off on May 4 in the Fire Phoenix Square of Phoenix Island. A total of 208 torchbearers will run through the 30.09 kilometers route that will end at the scenic spot of Tianya Haijiao, passing the Crown of Beauty Center, Haiyue Square of Sanya Gulf and Haihong Square.

    After Sanya, the Olympic Flame will head to Wuzhishan, another city of Hainan Province.

Flame finds fanfare in mainland return

    BEIJING, May 4 -- After touring 21 countries and regions in its globe-trotting trek, the Olympic flame is finally back on mainland soil. It arrived about 10 o'clock last night to much pizzazz in Sanya, on the southwest island province of Hainan.

    The Beijing Olympic Games torch relay resumes its journey on the man-made Phoenix Island in Sanya Bay at 8am today. In all, 624 torchbearers will cover the 91.63-kilometer route in Hainan Province, passing by landmarks in Wuzhishan and Wanning cities, before it ends in Haikou, capital of the province, on Tuesday.

    A total of 208 torchbearers, including officials, businessmen and showbusiness figures like tele-vision hostess Yang Lan and movie star Zhang Ziyi will run in the 30.9km Sanya leg of the relay. Full story
