OTTAWA, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Millions of dollars worth of toy and food donations were destroyed Sunday when a warehouse of the charity organization Salvation Army caught fire in Canada's biggest city Toronto.

There were no injuries as no one was inside the building during the fire, Canadian Television reported.

A fire sprinkler helped save the building from the blaze but the toys were heavily damaged by the water and smoke. About 100,000 toys were destroyed in the fire, as well as a large quantity of food, said Major Fred Butler-Caughie, with the Salvation Army.

The damage to the building, the toys and food stock total about4 million Canadian dollars (4 million U.S. dollars), he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
