JAKARTA, May 8 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with magnitude of 5.5 rocked Aceh province in northern tip of Sumatra Island of Indonesia on Thursday afternoon, no report of damages or casualty, according to the country's meteorology agency.

The quake struck at 18:30 Jakarta time (1130 GMT) with epicenter at 304 km northwest Sabang town of the province and at 20 km in depth, the agency said.

Indonesia lies on a vulnerable quake-hit zone called "the pacific Ring of Fire," where two continental plates meet that cause frequent seismic and volcanic movements.
