BEIJING, May 13 -- As the eyes of the world turn to China and the upcoming summer Olympic Games, Beijing spruces up for the coming of visitors - China's national acrobatic troupe is gearing up to entertain Olympic crowds.
The national acrobatic troupe, China's best acrobatic team, will perform its latest work, "Splendid" at Beijing's Poly Theatre. The show opens July 4 continues to the end of August.
The two-hour performance includes 13 programmes. The troupe's director, Wang Yunfen says 80 of the company's best acrobats take part in the performance.
Wang Yunfen, head of the Chinese Acrobatc Troupe, said, "The acrobatic performances we will give during the Games are the best in China - which means they are among the best in the World. Most of our programs have won international and domestic awards."
The history of Chinese acrobatics dates back centuries. An art form that focuses on challenging physical limitations, many Chinese view acrobatics as the quintessential expression of China's strength and power as a nation.
Han Ying, acrobat, said, "Welcome friends from all over the world to our performances. I will do my best to perform well".
Zhao Hanlong started juggling when he was 14. After 6 years of training, he became the first in the world able to juggle 11 balls at the same time. Zhao said, "Juggling was introduced to China from other countries. But I just want to show people from other countries that Chinese can juggle better".
Beijing expects over 30,000 journalists and thousands of foreign tourists during the summer Games. The Chinese Acrobatic Troupe was founded in 1949. It's the oldest of its kind in China.
