KABUL, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Around 150 militants have been killed by Afghan and foreign troops in southern Afghanistan, a provincial governor said Tuesday.

The operations were made in Garmser district of Helmand province, a known hotbed of Taliban-led militancy, during the past seven to eight days, Helmand's provincial governor Gulab Mangal told Xinhua via phone.

The around 150 killed rebels included some foreign fighters, he said, without saying if there were casualties on Afghan and foreign troops.

The press office of NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) here, while reached by Xinhua by phone, said they had no related information.

Afghan and international troops intensified their operations during the past weeks in Helmand, where Taliban-led militants were said to have control over several districts.
