ISLAMABAD, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan Wednesday denied Indian claim that its troops had violated ceasefire by firing across the Line of Control (LoC), which divides both countries in the disputed Kashmir region.

    Indian army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel A.K. Mathur was quoted as saying that Pakistani army resorted to unprovoked firing in Kupwara sector last Tuesday evening.

    A Pakistani military spokesman denied the Indian claim of unprovoked firing by Pakistani Troops on the LoC in Neelam Valley of Kashmir, the News Network International news agency reported.

    The spokesman said that Indian Military Authorities had been informed that no incident of firing from this side of the LoC took place, as claimed.

    The tension surfaced ahead of the visit to Islamabad by the Indian Minister for External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee later this month to push the on-going dialogue process between the two countries.

    Pakistan and India announced ceasefire along the LoC in November 2003 as part of peace efforts between the two countries.
