CHENGDU, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Thirty-three tourists from Britain, the United States and France arrived in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, from quake-hit panda town Wolong via military helicopter at 11:05 a.m. on Thursday.
The tourists, who had been stranded in Wolong since the massive quake hit on Monday, were in good health.
"They were in anxiety when we arrived in Wolong, but soon relaxed after getting aboard the chopper and thanked us," Yang Wei, captain of the military helicopter.
The foreigners thumbed up again to thank the crew after landing in Chengdu.
Zhang Wenxiang, an official of the Wolong Giant Panda Administration, reported by satellite phone Wednesday afternoon that tourists and journalists stranded in Wolong, including more than 50 foreigners, were safe.
No deaths or injuries have been reported from the tourists and journalists, who had been arranged to stay in a local hotel after the quake, said Zhang.
Telecommunications had been cut for Wolong, famous for the China Wolong Giant Panda Protection and Research Center, since Monday.
Meanwhile, more than 50 domestic tourists were confirmed dead on Thursday in Jiuzhaigou, a tourist attraction in Sichuan.
The emergency management office of Aba prefecture, Sichuan, said as of 8 p.m. Wednesday more than 10,000 tourists were stranded in Aba, including about 2,900 in Jiuzhaigou and 7,058 in Songpan County.
Yang Changqing, secretary-general of the Aba government, said 1,200 tourists were stranded in Maoxian County.
The local government was evacuating stranded tourists by road and air.
Eastern and southern parts of the ring road around Jiuzhaigou were cut off, but sightseeing attractions were safe.
A spokesman for the Jiuzhaigou tourism administration said morethan 3,000 people had been evacuated by Wednesday and the remaining 2,900 were expected to be evacuated on Thursday.
