WASHINGTON, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Tim Montgomery, the
former sprint world record holder and the United States' Olympic champion, was
sentenced to 46 months in prison on Friday for dealing in fraudulent checks.
He pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy in the bank
fraud and money laundering plot. Prosecutors said he had a hand in depositing
bogus checks worth 1.7 million U.S. dollars.
Montgomery won an Olympic 4x100m
relay gold in Sydney 2000 and set a 100m world record of 9.78 seconds, which was
erased after he was proved doping.
