UNITED NATIONS, May 16 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Friday welcomed the arrival of rebel group representatives in Burundi's capital for resumption of peace talks with the government.

    Ban urged the delegation of the Palipehutu-FNL, the rebel group involved in deadly fighting with the government forces in recent weeks "to engage in good faith" in the latest phase of the Burundi peace process, his spokesperson said in a statement.

    "The Secretary-General remains deeply concerned by the ongoing fighting and the suffering it has inflicted on the people," said the spokesperson.

    "He calls on the government and the Palipehutu-FNL to immediately cease military action and to take measures to build confidence in, and support the peace process," the spokesperson added.

    Dozens have died over the past month in clashes in and around Burundi's capital Bujumbura, despite a ceasefire agreement in 2006between the government and the Palipehutu-FNL, the last major rebel hold-outs after the end of the brutal civil war between the Hutu majority and the Tutsi minority.
