JAKARTA, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia was shocked 3-0 by South Korea in the Thomas Cup semifinals at Senayan Sports Hall in Jakarta on Friday evening.

"I really did not expect the result would be like this, I predicted the outcome would be 3-2 for Indonesia," Indonesian Badminton Federation chainman Sutiyoso said.

But, he admitted the South Koreans played much better than the host team.

"Nevertheless we have to accept their victory because they played so superbly," he added.

A similar statement was made by Sports Minister Adhyaksa Dault who had also watched the match.

"I really did not think we would lose 3-0," he said.

Indonesian Thomas Cup shuttler in 1979 Iie Sumirat who also watched the match between Indonesia and South Korea said the Indonesians were inferior both mentally and physically.

"We have seen that the South Koreans are mentally and physically exceptional, despite the Indonesian spectators' noisy support to the host team," he said.

"I believe that the Indonesian team needs more intensive preparations for the Olympics," he added.

Meanwhile when asked what chances the Indonesian Uber Cup team has when facing China in the final rounds on Saturday, Sutiyoso said that it would be quite difficult for Indonesia, but he is expecting a miracle.

"In tomorrow's Uber Cup match, it is like David against Goliath, and I hope David would win," Sutiyoso was quoted by the Jakarta Post as saying on Saturday.

"Theoretically, the Indonesians are the underdog, the Chinese shuttlers are much higher in their world ranking than ours, but who knows a miracle may happen," he added.
