China, Russia ink joint statement on key int'l issues

    BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- International security is comprehensive and inalienable, and some countries' security cannot be guaranteed at the cost of some others', including expanding military and political allies, said a Sino-Russian joint statement.

    The Sino-Russian joint statement on major international issues, signed here on Friday after talks between Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, stressed the necessity to respect and consider the interests and concerns of relevant countries. Full story

China, Russia vow joint efforts to combat terrorism

    BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- China and Russia signed a joint statement here Friday, vowing to strengthen cooperation to combat terrorism in any form.

    Condemning terrorism in any form, the two countries believe terrorism is seeking ideological expansion and has even closer ties with transnational organized crimes and drug trafficking. Both sides expressed concern over that, the statement says. Full Story

Chinese president commends Russian rescue team's quake efforts

    BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao on Friday highly commended the Russian rescue team's relief efforts in China's quake-hit Sichuan province.

Russia's new president embarks on first China tour

    BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Russia's new president, Dmitry Medvedev, arrived in Beijing on Friday, starting a two-day state visit to China as a guest of Chinese President Hu Jintao.

    Medvedev will hold talks with Chinese President Hu. He will also meet top legislator Wu Bangguo, top political advisor Jia Qinglin and vice president Xi Jinping. Full story
