Special report: Tension escalates in Iraq

BAGHDAD, June 1 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. helicopter crashed south of Baghdad early on Sunday, wounding two American soldiers, the U.S. military said.

A military statement said preliminary indications refer to that the cause of the crash was due to a "mechanical failure."

The military will conduct an investigation to determine what happened, the statement said.

The wounded soldiers were transported to a medical facility for treatment, it said.
