BEIJING, June 5 (Xinhuanet) -- World's No. 1 golfer
Tiger Woods tops Sports Illustrated's "Fortunate 50" list of the
highest-earning athletes with an earning of 128 million U.S. dollars in
2007.
Woods made 22.9 million dollars in winnings and
another 105 million in endorsements, more than twice as much as any other U.S.
professional athlete, according to Sports Illustrated Thursday.
Woods, 32, has earned near 800 million dollars in his
13-year career.
Phil Mickelson, following Woods, is at No. 2 with
total earnings of 62,372,685 dollars. Mickelson sees 9,372,685 dollars in
winnings and 53 million dollars coming from endorsements and appearance fees.
NBA players have dominated the list and more than
half of the 50 are pro hoopsters. LeBron James owns the title of highest-paid
basketball star with 40,455,000 dollars, and 12,455,000 dollars written out by
the Cleveland Cavaliers.
For only the second time, the Fortunate 50 features
zero female athletes. Serena and Venus Williams, despite their resurgences over
the past few years, haven't earned enough on the court to keep up with the boys,
Among the International 20 list of the top-earning
foreign athletes, David Beckham, ranks No. 1 with a total of 48.2 million
dollars.
Chinese basketball star Yao Ming ranks No. 8 with a
total of 31,762,775 dollars.
