BEIJING, June 5 (Xinhua) -- With roughly two months before the start of the Olympic Games, Beijing is almost ready as the host, chief organizer said here on Thursday.

    Liu Qi, president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG), made the remarks when briefing the executive board of the International Olympic Committee at a tele-conference on the progress of the city's preparations for theAug.8-24 event.

    "Our preparatory work is well on track, and on the whole, we are almost ready for hosting the Games," said Liu.

    As the construction of the 37 competition venues and recruitment of the volunteers came to an end, BOCOG would shift its focus to the service area in the following days, he added.

    "We will try our utmost to offer good service to all the accredited people," said Liu.

    Liu also expressed his sincere gratitude to the IOC for its one-million-U.S.-dollars donation for relief efforts in regions hit by an earthquake in southwest China.

    IOC president Jacques Rogge again praised the Chinese organizers, saying the IOC is very confident that the Beijing Games would be a "great success".
