PYONGYANG, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Inspired by the good performance of the national football team in the World Cup qualifier, the fans of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) are hoping the team could repeat their 1966 miracle at the 2010 World Cup.
The DPRK downed Turkmenistan 1-0 in Pyongyang in their 2010 World Cup qualifier ON Saturday. The fans hoped their team could carry on its vigor and spirit of the 1966 London World Cup quarter-finalists, creating another "London myth", said the Choson Sinbo, a Korean newspaper based in Japan.
The victory over the Turkmenistan has given the fans so much confidence that they believed the DPRK would continue to win the next match, the newspaper said.
The DPRK, with eight point in hand, stay second place in Group C. On the penultimate Match Day on June 14, it will host Jordan while Turkmenistan will be at home against South Korea. The top two from each group progress to the final round of qualification.
