China quake death toll sees no increase overnight

    BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- The death toll of China's May 12 earthquake saw no increase from figure of the previous day, freezing at 69,146 as of Wednesday noon, the State Council Information Office said.

    A total of 374,131 people were injured and 17,516 others remained missing after the 8.0-magnitude quake that jolted southwestern Sichuan Province and neighboring regions about a month ago.

    Hospitals had treated 95,324 injured people as of Wednesday noon, of whom 77,034 had been discharged and 15,692 were still being treated.

    By Tuesday, more than 1.39 million quake survivors had been found and evacuated.

    The government disaster relief fund had reached 23.6 billion yuan (about 3.37 billion U.S. dollars), including 19 billion yuan from the central budget and 4.59 billion yuan from the local budget.

    Relief supplies continued to pour into the quake zone. As of Wednesday noon, 1.05 million tents, 4.77 million quilts, 13.98 million garments, 916,900 tons of fuel oil and 1.96 million tons of coal had been sent.

    The office said as of Tuesday, relief workers had built 80,400 temporary houses and another 26,400 were being installed, while the material for 49,900 makeshift houses had arrived in the affected areas.

    As of Wednesday noon, domestic and foreign donations to the quake zone had reached 44.57 billion yuan in cash and goods.

    In the 24 hours ending Wednesday noon, 221 aftershocks were monitored in the quake zone, according to the China Earthquake Administration.

    One of the tremors measured between 5.0-5.9, one between 4.0-4.9, and all the others measured at or below 3.9 magnitude, the administration said.

    A total of 11,601 aftershocks have been detected in the quake areas since May 12.

    As of Wednesday noon, 5,994 water plants and 40,124 kilometers of water supply pipelines had been repaired, according to the office.

    The quake had damaged 8,114 water plants and 47,642.5 kilometers of water supply channels.

    As of Wednesday noon, 46,014 kilometers of the 47,277 kilometers of highway damaged in the earthquake had been repaired and reopened, the office said.
