CAIRO, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian mediators will soon invite some 14 Palestinian factions to take part in talks for Palestinian national reconciliation, Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt Nabil Amr said Thursday.

The Palestinian diplomat made the remarks at a seminar attended by members of the Palestinian community here, the Egyptian official MENA news agency said.

Egypt is in contact with the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and all Palestinian factions to hammer out the timetable and agenda of the dialogue, Amr was quoted as saying.

The planned talks are set to draw up mechanisms to apply a Yemeni initiative on national reconciliation among various Palestinian groups, Amr added.

In February, Yemen presented the reconciliation initiative between rival Palestinian Fatah and Islamic Hamas movements, which aims at ending Hamas control of the Gaza Strip and rebuilding the police and security apparatuses.

The Yemeni initiative has been approved by both Fatah and Hamas movements, said Amr.

Last month, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah said he was ready to resume talks with Hamas which routed his forces and ousted his movement from Gaza. Hamas expressed its welcome to the call.
