LAGOS, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's national record holder in the women's high jump Doreen Amata has assured that she will need to improve on her present form to meet up with the Olympic standard.

Amata will be representing the country in the high jump event at this year's Olympic Games in Beijing.

Speaking exclusively to Nation Sport, after setting a new national record of 1.95 meters, the dark skinned high jumper said she intends to commence training as soon as possible to remain in shape and surpass her present record.

"I felt great when I was qualified for the Olympics in China. I have to start training at once to be ready for the challenges of the Olympics. Having worked so hard to get to this stage, I must put up more effort to meet the challenges of the championship," she promised.

Asked if she had any strong opposition during the trials, the All Africa Games gold medallist said though there was no strong opposition at the trials, she still has to work harder to reach her top form.
