UNITED NATIONS, July 7 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned on Monday the suicide bombing in the Afghan capital of Kabul that has killed 40 people.

"The secretary-general condemns in the strongest terms the suicide bombing in Kabul today, which took place in the vicinity of the Afghan Ministry of Interior and the Indian Embassy," Ban's spokesperson said in a statement.

Forty people were reportedly killed in the attack, including "numerous civilians and several Indian Embassy guards," Michele Montas said.

"The secretary-general reiterates that no political agenda or grievance can justify such reprehensible means," Montas said. "He urges that those responsible be brought to justice."
