Special report: 2008 Olympic Games
BEIJING, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Customs officials will conduct more spot checks
on Olympics-related items to ensure security for the forthcoming Games, customs
head Sheng Guangzu said here on Tuesday.
"We will make specific, detailed plans so we can handle any emergency
appropriately, as fast as possible," Sheng said.
To ensure a safe event, the national customs office and the six co-host
cities' customs departments built a cross-city command network. Relevant customs
offices have all confirmed a coordination mechanism with local police and
security departments and made 622 work and emergency plans.
China has trained 24,012 people for Olympics security and carried out 369
emergency drills, and it also sent 160 customs staff to the Beijing Capital
Airport to assist with security checks.
