Special report: 2008 Olympic Games

MADRID, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Sailing world champion Anton Paz has announced his ambition to win another medal for Spain at next month's Olympic Games in Beijing.

"Athens was my first Olympic Games and you can tell it is a different kind of competition. I was a bit inexperienced and I didn't sleep well. But now after that first experience, this is the moment to give it everything and to get the best possible result," Paz told Wednesday's sports paper Marca.

Paz, the reigning world champion in the Tornado class, believes he will encounter different sailing conditions in China. The sailing event will be held in Qingdao, eastern China, on Aug. 9-23.

"It is complicated because there are more light and unstable winds and that means more people will be in with a chance," he said.

He said he also expects tough competition from arch rivals. " You always have to bear in mind the double gold medal winner from the last Games, Austrian Roman Hagarra, or world champion Darren Bundock from Australia. Then there is a big group that is very even such as the Germans, the Argentinians, the Americans or us."

"The problem is that there is more equality all of the time in the fleets and it is getting harder to say what will happen. We are among the favorites, but with the conditions we are going to find, you can't say for sure you will win a medal," he said.
