CAIRO, July 10 (Xinhua) -- A senior leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Thursday called on Israel to abide by its commitments to a truce with the Palestinian groups to deliver basic goods to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the Egyptian official MENA news agency reported.

Moussa Abu Marzouq, deputy chief of the Hamas political bureau and head of a Hamas delegation held talks in Cairo with Egyptian mediators in the past few days, made the remarks before returning to Damascus.

The Hamas delegation, grouping Hamas members from Gaza and Syria, discussed with Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman the Gaza truce, the blockade and a proposed prisoner-swap deal with Israel.

Abu Marzouq said the conditions in Gaza have improved thanks to the Egyptian efforts, hoping that Israel would abide by its commitments on the delivery of basic goods to the Gaza people.

As for the firing of rockets from Gaza against Israel, the Hamas leader termed it as "an individual act," saying it was not carried out by the Palestinian factions.

The Egyptian-brokered ceasefire between Hamas and Israel took effect on June 19 in Gaza. However, Israel closed the crossing points from time to time since then in response to rocket attacks by some Palestinian militants from Gaza.
