    CARACAS, July 10 (Xinhua) -- A large Olympic caravan will tour Caracas June 13 with the aim of encouraging the population to get involved in the Beijing Olympic Games and to support the Venezuelan athletes, sports authorities said Thursday.

    Vice president of the Venezuelan Olympic Committe (COV) Elida de Alvarez said Thursday at a press conference that the tour will begin in La Rinconada and end in the COV headquarters in the housing development of El Paraiso (west of Caracas).

    Up to this moment, Venezuela has 107 classified athletes for the Olympic Games to start August 8 in China.

    Despite the athletes to go to Beijing are training and have compromises abroad, Jose Luis Fuentes, gymnast winner of the foal with arzon in the Panamerican Games of Rio 2007, will attend the caravan.

    Odalis Rivas, organizers of the event said sports and recreative activities will take place for people of different ages.

    The sports day will end with a concert offered by the salsa group "Los Adolescentes".

    Venezuela has obtained 10 medals in its 60 years of Olympic participation, eight of them in boxing and taekwondo.
