BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's star gymnast Jade Barbosa vowed here on Friday to defeat China's multi-world champion Cheng Fei to win the first Olympic gold.

Ironically, the "secrete weapon" that Barbosa possesses to combat against Cheng actually comes from Cheng. The "Cheng Fei jump", which is named after Cheng, is so difficult that only Barbosa and DPRK gymnast Hong Un Jong in the world can finish except the Chinese.

Barbosa, 17, said she respects her Chinese rivals but will seize every chance to beat them at the upcoming Beijing Olympics.

"I know they (Chinese gymnasts) are very good and many Chinese spectators are specialists with the event. I like such an atmosphere and competing here," Barbosa said upon her arrival at Beijing's Capital Airport Friday afternoon.

Barbosa shared a bronze medal with Italy's Vanessa Ferrari in the all-around competition at the Stuttgart world championships last year.

Reigning world champion Cheng, better known as "queen of vault", has clinched three consecutive victories at the world championships.
