BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Maria Sharapova continued to suffer the injury woes as she has to quit U.S. Open following her withdrawal from the Beijing Games.

"It hurts me so much to miss the Olympics and the U.S. Open, youhave no idea, just to type those words hurt!" Sharapova said on her official website on Friday. "I think this will be the first Grand Slam I have ever missed."

After quitting the Montreal Cup, Sharapova went to New York to see shoulder doctor David Altchek, who, after the examination, was surprised that Sharapova had been playing with a tear in her right rotator cuff since April.

Sharapova is not expected to require surgery. She will travel to Arizona to do extensive rehab and strength work and according to the doctor, she is likely to miss two to three months.

"Now I need to move forward and stay positive," she said on www.mariasharapova.com. "I am going to work hard to get healthy."

Sharapova joins a growing list of Beijing casualties, including Athens silver medalist Amelie Mauresmo and former French Open winner Mary Pierce.
