YANGON, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- A Myanmar female referee is to make her debut in the upcoming women's soccer event at the Beijing Olympic Games next week in China, according to state-run newspaper The Myanmar Alin on Saturday.
Myanmar's international female linesperson Kaw Jar, who will be the first Myanmar women's referee permitted to take such responsibility in the Olympic Games history, will referee as a linesperson in the Olympic women's soccer event in the Beijing Summer Games in China from Aug. 6 to 23, the paper said.
A total of 36 female officials -- 12 referees and 24 linespersons -- from five continents will take responsibility in the Olympic women's soccer tournament in China.
Three referees and six linespersons each from Asia and Latin America, four referees and eight linesperson from Europe and one referee and two linespersons each from Africa and South America will take duty in the Beijing Olympics women's soccer event, it said.
Kaw Jar refereed in international women's soccer tournament for the first time in the 21st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Malaysia in 2001. She has refereed in over 20 international tournaments abroad since then.
