Chinese embassy holds seeing off reception for Bangladesh Olympic team

    DHAKA, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese embassy in Bangladesh held a seeing off reception here Saturday for Bangladesh Olympic delegation before they leave for Beijing to attend the Olympics.

    Chinese Ambassador Zheng Qingdian said at the reception that China is ready for the Olympics and is receiving all the guests from all over the world.

    Zheng believed China will enhance the friendship with other countries through the Olympics and he is confident the great sports event will be a success with the support of all the people.

    Zheng wished Bangladeshi athletes get good results in the Olympics.

    Army Chief General Moeen Ahmed, who is also the President of Bangladesh Olympic Association, said he is very happy to attend the 29th Beijing Olympics.

    Moeen said China is to hold the Olympics and all the eyes are fixing on China. He is expecting something great from the Beijing Olympics.

    Head of the delegation, and Bangladeshi paramilitary chief Major General Shakil Ahmed told Xinhua at the reception that Bangladesh is lagging behind other countries in sports, expressing the hope that the government will give priorities to the shooting and diving events.

    "I think one day shooting and diving will be qualified for Olympics," he said.

    Bangladesh will send a 39-member delegation to Beijing Olympics, including six athletes, three coaches. Among the six athletes, five will contest swimming, shooting, track and field games. And another is a shooter who will go to Beijing to watch the games.

    Bangladesh athletes have never qualified for Olympics since attending the games in 1996. The country got five wild cards from International Olympic Committee for Beijing Olympics.
