Special report: 2008 Olympic Games

BEIJING, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- "Although we are a small country in Europe, we are still very excited to have a chance to join the Olympic Games in China," Gian Primo Giardi, chef de mission of the Republic of San Marino told Xinhua on Sunday.

Located in the central Europe with a total area of just more than 60 square kilometers, San Marino sends four athletes including two swimmers and two shooters to the Beijing Games.

"We have competence in women's double trap as Emanuela Felici won the 7th palce in Sydney and Athens Games respectively. This time, we hope Del Din Daniela will do a better job," Gian said.

"China is so vast as the area of Beijing can be comparable to that of the San Marino. To hold such a big event in China is a milestone in the Olympic history," he said.

"China has done a great job in organizing the games, and I believe your efforts will be paid off," he said.
