BOGOTA, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Bird Nest stadium, the
venue for the opening and closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games, is the
main subject of a philatelic edition presented Tuesday by Colombia to
commemorate its participation in the Olympics.
Colombian Olympic Committee (COC) said Tuesday that
the "Stamps emission Beijing 2008" includes a folder of the presentation and the
envelope of the "first day of services".
The stamp and all its accessories were designed by
former athlete Wilmer Avendalo Correa who was advised by Colombian Fernando
Lersundy, an expert of the Olympic issues and qualified philatelist.
This is the first time that the COC's logo is placed
in the design, which will allow it to be known in the entire world.
"The stamp is inspired on the amazing National
Stadium of China, also know as Bird Nest of Beijing," president of the National
Postal Services of Colombia Juan Ernesto Vargas Uribe said.
"That monumental building is equipped with a platform of
sun energy and a system of rain water recollection which process 58,000 tons
per year to irrigate and clean," Vargas said.
The emission also includes a brochure about the
Olympic Games, which this time will receive 205 countries and regions, including
the medals description and the architecture of the Chinese cities that will host
the Games.
